ABOUT US
Welcome to the Fox
Fox Theatre Atchison is a first-run movie theatre in the heart of Downtown Atchison. Featuring three auditoriums, comfortable recliner seating, modern projection and sound, and all the movie-night essentials, the Fox brings the big-screen experience close to home.
Following a full restoration completed in 2018, the Fox blends modern moviegoing with the character of a historic theatre. Today, it continues to be a place to catch the newest releases, revisit old favorites, gather with friends and family, and experience a little more than just the movies.

Our History
The story of the Fox Theatre spans more than a century of entertainment in Atchison. As early as circa 1911, the site was home to the Royal Theatre, later known as the Fox Royal Theatre, beginning a long-standing connection to motion pictures in the community.
The current Fox Theatre was built in 1949 and became downtown Atchison's neighborhood movie house. Originally a single-screen theatre, it evolved alongside its audiences. A second auditorium was created in the balcony in the 1970s, followed by an additional screen on the main level in 1992.
After operating from 1949 to 2011, the Fox closed for several years before Theatre Atchison led an extensive restoration from 2017 to 2018. The project transformed the building into the three-screen theatre enjoyed today while preserving its historic character.
The Fox is the last surviving theatre from Atchison's 1940s era and is listed on the National and State Registers of Historic Places and recognized by the Kansas Preservation Alliance. Today, it remains both a preserved piece of Atchison history and an active part of downtown life.
